Laidback and Joyful Wedding in Hackney (With The Best Confetti Shot Ever)
Today’s Sunday sermon is short but sweet: it’s so important for couples and their wedding photographers to get on, for both of our sakes. Taking wedding photos is a major honour and a massive privilege, but as the cliché goes – and as we all know, clichés are there for a reason (because they’re true…) – with great power comes great responsibility. You want to make sure you’re comfortable with the person you’ve chosen, especially with more candid photography, as you need to feel truly yourself and not awkward and clammy and static. Similarly, it’s important to us ‘togs that you’re comfortable with us, as it means we can capture the best version of you that you want to remember, rather than trying to fabricate a version of you that’s not present. The point being, Prue and Nick were incredible, and we got on like a house on fire, so to show you their big day is a haaaa-uge pleasure. (Do priests mic drop after sermons? They should do.)
Prue got ready at home in Walthamstow, with Nick getting ready at his friend’s house 5 doors down. Prue was the image of wedding day bliss from the get-go, so smiley and excitable – and totally drop dead gorgeous in her Charlie Brear separates and glittery veil.
Their ceremony was held at Hackney Town Hall, one of my faves thanks to its moody pannelled interior and gorgeous open foyer. After the ceremony, we went for a little wander (sunglasses being a cool bride non-negotiable) and played around with some of the incredible walls the area has to offer, taking advantage of the amazing shadows that the sunlight was throwing us. After that, we joined the rest of the party at the Hackney Showroom in Hackney Downs Studio, where we did one of the best, most joyous confetti shots of my life (and Lord knows I love a confetti shot) before heading into the party.
The reception setting was super lovely and laidback, with strings of fairy lights swooping over lots of trestle tables piled high with feasting food and sharing platters, and some super atmospheric lighting for speeches and general merriment, plus loads of little details that made the day extra special. I adored Prue and Nick’s graphic wedding logo – a little Venn diagram of the two of them meeting in the middle. (And yes, if you’ve spotted it, bonus point to you – Nick’s brother and groomsman is from ‘People Just Do Nothing’!) Thanks Prue + Nick for having me as part of your day – you were the best!
